The vocabulary the rules use, in one place — so “cover the queen” and “the diagonal arrow line” mean exactly one thing at your table.
- “Y” arrangement
- The opening setup inside the centre circle: the queen at the middle, the carrommen packed in close contact with the black pieces forming a Y.Equipment →
- Base circle
- The red circle at each end of a base line, marking where the baseline area stops.Gameplay →
- Base line
- The pair of parallel red lines along each player’s edge of the board. The striker must touch both of them, and only your hand may cross the line.Gameplay →
- Break
- The opening shot. The player decided by a coin toss strikes the “Y” from their own baseline.Gameplay →
- Carrommen
- The 18 playing pieces — nine white, nine black — typically 3.02–3.18 cm across.Equipment →
- Combination shot
- A strike that pockets a piece via one or more other pieces rather than directly. Allowed.Gameplay →
- Cover
- Pocketing one of your own carrommen on the strike immediately after taking the queen, which secures it.Queen Rules →
- Diagonal arrow line
- The red diagonal marked with arrows running towards each corner. The striker must not cross or touch it.Gameplay →
- Luck shot
- A pocket that was not intended. It still counts, and the turn continues.Gameplay →
- One of the four corner holes, 4.45 cm in diameter, with a net underneath to catch the pieces.Equipment →
- Queen
- The single red piece. It starts at the centre, may only be taken after your first carromman, and is worth 3 points once covered.Queen Rules →
- Striker
- The heavier disc, 7.5 cm across and 8 mm thick, that you flick with a finger to move the carrommen.Equipment →
